Funny Folds.....my mini star card

Something with a little bit of engineering for the Woodware challenge this week.

We made a similar card to this at a class at The Glitter Pot a few weeks ago

and it inspired me to make another.

So I've made it into a Christmas decoration but you could add some little photos inside and turn it into a mini album as a gift for a special occasion.

Cut five 4" square pieces of paper (you could do six if you want). Edge each piece with a contrasting ink pad on both sides.

Fold each square in half both ways and make one diagonal fold.

Use a bone folder to get crisp folds.

You can use any paper or thin card, patterned, plain or why not stamp your own.

Stick one of the plain squares on the shape to the square on a second shape.

Keep the pointed ends together.

Continue to do this until all are stuck together. Don't stick the first shape to the last shape.

Close it up to see the resulting 2" square mini card.

Now the fun part of decorating....I've used three Woodware snowflake punches and some silver paper. You need to punch a snowflake for each shape that appears inside the card. Stick a snowflake on each section within the 'star'.

Cut two 2" squares and some smaller squares to layer inside to make the two covers, layer together and attach an 8" length of ribbon to the back of each on one corner.

Stick a cover to the front and back so the ribbon will be at the top when you close it up.

Decorate the covers with a punched snowflake.

Thread a few pretty beads onto the ribbon (put both ribbons through the bead) and tie a knot on the end of the two ribbons. The beads keep it together.

Close it and hang it up or open it and hang it up.

Either way they make fun little decorations.

You could make some really mini ones by using a 3" square instead

of a 4" square piece of paper.

Woodware challenge - Girlie Things....

This is one of my new images for Autumn 2013 JGS311 Rose Buds.

It's ideal to send to a close girl friend to show how much you appreciate them.

Its coloured with Copic markers and highlighted with red glitter glue.

The red and white twine adds a touch of 'just picked from the garden' to the card.



Another version but with added liquid pearls to create flourishes.

Dreamweaver Hop...Christmas stencils

Welcome to the annual Dreamweaver and Woodware Christmas in August extravaganza week! Monday through Saturday we will be knocking your Christmas stockings off with fun and inspirational ideas for the upcoming holidays. All that you need to do is hop back and forth across the "pond" on each day, oohing and aaahhhing as you go, and leaving us plenty of holiday love. I've used  a new Dreamweaver stencil, LJ925 Merry Christmas, for my project this week.

Instead of a card I have made a door knob hanger, children will love one of these hanging on their bedroom door this Christmas, they could even make their own.

This is a big stencil with nice fat letters perfect for Zentangle!

Place the stencil onto card and draw inside very lightly with pencil around the letters.

Then start Zentangling, I've used a fine Sakura red pen for my hanger.

Layer it onto coloured card, punch or die cut a circle big enough to fit over a door knob and decorate as you wish.

I've used a Woodware holly punch (blue size) and some red card Candi.

What a Wonderful World...

 The wonderful craft and gift shop Japonica in Exmouth, Devon has inspired us this week.

The title of a Louis Armstrong song, "What a Wonderful Word".

My project comes from the first line 'I see trees of green....red roses too...' so I've made some red roses! These are BIG roses made from the blue heart punch from Woodware.

I've decorated a heart scrapbook tin with a heart doily and stuck the roses to the doily adding the punched maidenhair fern afterwards.

The photo shows that you need to punch 10 hearts and how to stick the hearts together.

Once stuck with PVA glue, apply red ink to all the edges and curl the tops of the hearts over to curve the 'petals'. Join the hearts together to form four cones in different sizes. 

Turn the point of the single heart up and fold flat.

Cut the points off the two middle shapes and put one inside the other sticking together with a blob of PVA glue.

They look very realistic and about life size too.
